Join us for a four-part podium session that focuses on professional development and support for oncology nurses. 

  • Penny Moore will present "How Many Nurses Do We Need? Developing an Acuity Tool for Ambulatory Infusion Clinics." She'll explain how a comprehensive cancer center used an acuity tool to improve productivity and nurse-to-patient ratios, permitting the creation of a new nursing position.
  • Dereen Houck will present "An Educational Intervention to Help Nurses Cope With Grief and Compassion Fatigue." She'll highlight aspects of a three-part program addressing cumulative grief and compassion fatigue, holistic self-care, and spiritual self-healing. The program was designed specifically for community hospital nurses who indicated that they preferred to grieve alone. 
  • Jenny Sliheet will present "Remembering the 'Mayonnaise Jar and Two Cups of Coffee' Concept: A New Approach to Combating Burnout and Compassion Fatigue." She'll share how an oncology research clinic created a Compassion Fatigue Initiative with the help of a professional psychologist, conducting six weekly group sessions.
  • Jerome Maxfield will present "Development of the Clinical Ladder for Advanced Practice." He'll discuss the development of clinical ladders for nurse practitioners and physician assistants and how his institution addressed the scarcity of research specifically for advanced practitioners.
