Join us for a three-part podium session that explores how collaboration increases patient safety and satisfaction.

  • Maureen Oliveri will present "Recovering from Superstorm Sandy: The Role of Clerical Staff in Restoring Operations and Maintaining Patient Safety After a Natural Disaster." She'll share how interdisciplinary teams coordinated workflows and reallocated resources when New York University Langone Medical Center was flooded, destroying inpatient radiation oncology facilities.
  • Linley Rasamny will present "Disaster Recovery: Maintaining Patient Safety and Quality Care Following Superstorm Sandy in Radiation Oncology."

  • Julieta Fajardo will present "Accents of International Nurses As an Oral Communication Barrier to Patient Satisfaction With Nursing Communication." She'll describe the results of MD Anderson Cancer Center's Accent Modification Class, which helps internationally educated nurses to improve their communication skills and confidence.
  • Karen Schaedlich and Lynn Szoka will present "The Creation of a Nursing-Led Inpatient/Outpatient Oncology Huddle." They'll discuss how a multidisciplinary huddle between inpatient and outpatient units united staff, increased communication, and improved continuity of care.
